Supplying Our Home Gym and New Home
I still feel like a little boy within. I have a difficult time peering into the mirror and seeing a real adult. I would have believed the birth of my 2nd child would have altered it, yet I still appear to be in self-denial of the aging process.
And regarding aging — or rather fighting it off — my dear wife and I bought a brand new home and it has space in the basement for a home gym my wife had always wanted. I am seeing dollar signs when I consider the many big and small things essential, from the necessary but often neglected weight-lifting benches and fitness mats to determining the most versatile of the many stationary bikes. Exercise bikes can be tricky these days. Do you go with a recumbent or an upright bicycle? Should you select an electronic or analog?
Of course, my dear wife appears set on getting one of those elliptical trainers too. Yes you understood that right. An exercise bike and an elliptical machine — not one or the other. My estimate is that the extra exercise equipment will go with the cream for stretch marks she began using after the birth of youngest child. I may regret that jest.
I must be careful with the budget because our new house is a bit more of a fixer-upper. We wanted it this way, but we still must carefully budget every little thing, even to a knob for a cabinet (no joke). My dear wife has an ambitious cabinet refacing project projected, but I have to remind her the sink for the bathroom she desires installed will cost a fair amount, too.
Gratefully, she and I both enjoy the organic, rustic look, so we’re furnishing our new house with furniture which is unfinished. Yes, it still involves some finishing, but we can keep our costs down and create higher quality furniture than we could purchase anywhere anyways.
I uncovered a good table for coffee with some nice, raw knotting and a console table in matching oak. For our outdoor patio we’re researching outside fireplaces and we’ll go with some inexpensive wicker furnitures initially.
Furnishing a brand new house might seem so mature, but I can’t help but feel like I am just playing house. The exercise equipment and furniture just feel as a new generation of toys.
