Titles are supposed to be won through making smart moves, not by making trades out of desperation. There’s a reason why the nets and heat declined the last two years. The suns aren’t going to beat the spurs simply because they have one more big body to put on tim duncan. They just aren’t mentally tough enough overall, and one aging player isn’t going to change that. Maybe if they only had to give up kwame brown instead of their whole future, trading for kidd or shaq would make sense.

If jason kidd was a few years younger, it might make sense, but the mavs are basically gambling that trading for kidd will guarantee a title this year, not merely improve their chances or so they can win one a year or two from now.
