Basic beer making stocks

June 2nd, 2010

It is always good if your fridge is filled with beer if there is a surprise party arranged at your home or you get to watch an exciting program on TV. Beer has the benefit that it doesn’t make you totally out of control but just slightly drunk. But one thing for which you have to be careful is don’t consume too much beer at one time.

There are some people who are so crazy about the beer that they make beer brewing a regular pastime in their life. That’s what I would never recommend but an idea I would like to share is that you can make beer at home. Exciting right? You can even change the taste of beer by adding different ingredients to it. With this method you can choose the amount of any ingredient according to your taste for example if you want to have more alcohol then you can add it or if you are weight conscious then you can reduce the amount of calories in your beer.

If you never tried earlier to make the beer, then here you have a chance to learn about its ingredients and method of making it. First of all, the obvious ingredient is malt. They are usually available in tin cans or glass bottles. The other important component that is required is the brewing kettle; it is used to make up wort. Now the capacity of the kettle is very important. Choose the kettle that can keep the double amount of beer to the one you consume at a single time. You will find out why when you start brewing beer, after all, some things are better experienced than learned. The next important piece that you need to get is the fermenter. After the brewing of wort in kettle the mixture is moved into fermenter. Fermenter basic function is to hold the wort and yeast is used to carry on the rest of the work. There are usually two types, the one made of plastic and the one made of stainless steel. Some people use the plastic ones, but if you were to ask my personal opinion, I would strongly suggest for you to get the stainless steel one because with the plastic ones, the smell kind of sticks to it and that is just something that I can’t stand. There is no risk of mixing of smell with the beer if stainless steel kind is applied for beer brewing and even the commercial industries use the same material. That’s why it is good to use stainless steel.

These are just the basic beer making supplies. Beer brewing will become much better when you will try and study more about it. Good Luck!
